Where the real numbers come from

This table is written by the pipeline, not by hand, so it lists the sources that were actually pulled for the build you are looking at and says which of them came back empty. Ring-level values are derived from the anchor using published density, lot-size and travel-time distributions. Political readings are descriptive measures of enacted law and recorded voting, not endorsements, and they are scored only as distance from what you asked for. Connecticut's local reading is not reported: the state replaced county government with planning regions in 2022, and election returns are still published on the old county lines, so the two no longer match. State-level policy is not reported for any state; only the county-level (local) reading is scored. Puerto Rico's local reading is not reported for a different reason: Puerto Rico does not vote in United States presidential elections, so this county-level measure has no data to draw on, not now and not in the future.

Federal statistical products have become less dependable: NOAA retired its billion-dollar disasters series after 2024, BLS cut consumer price collection in several cities, and FEMA took the National Risk Index application offline while leaving the data downloadable. Every source is snapshotted at ingest and never deleted, so a series that disappears upstream still survives here.
